Senior Oracle DBA

Description: 
A highly energetic and multitalented Oracle professional to support Databases 
world wide, in multiple Data Center(s). 
The successful candidate will be a member of the Database Services DBA-ops 
group, leading 4 other DBAs responsible for a 24x7 Data Center schedule 
and will possess a combination of excellent database design and analytical 
skills, as well as familiarity with various Internet protocols, Perl and Shell 
script applications. 

He/She will also assume responsibility for managing Development, Test, and QA 
databases and implementing 
future Oracle enhancements to meet the business needs of the Studios and 
Platform Departments. 

You will also be involved in designing and implementing variety of database 
monitoring tools to enhance existing processes in order
to improve overall Operations effectiveness. 
You should be capable of teaching other team members in the use and best 
practices concerning these Oracle Technologies, while maintaining 
a hands on technical edge. 


Responsibilities include: 
- Provide 'best practices' knowledge of game processes as they relate to the 
use of the Oracle database. 
- Monitor and manage databases through their lifecycle and validate the 
technical solution meets the game requirements. 
- Troubleshoot and recover databases on a 7X24 schedule.  
- Use structured modeling and flow techniques to articulate application 
requirements. 
- Monitor, evaluate and advise on all issues that relate to any system 
projects. 
- Act as liason between Senior Management and Database Services.  
- Develop documentation and other materials to support ongoing database 
developement. 

Required Skills & Experience:  
- 7+ years hands-on experience as a Database DBA using Oracle and Unix or Linux 
- 7+ years hands-on experience as an Oracle DBA on Unix-based systems (incl. 
Design and implementation) 
- 5+ years experience with various Database solutions, tools. 
- 5+ years of working experience in a mission critical environment (Data 
Center, 365x24x7) 
- Strong knowledge of SQL, PL/SQL and analytical SQL  
- Strong Experience with tuning and optimizing database performance (Oracle 9i 
and/or 10G) 
- Strong PERL or shell script programming skill 
- Experience as a technical Lead DBA, managing resources and assigning projects 
  
- Practical knowledge of data backup and recovery (RMAN and/or OCFS and RAC) 
- Ability to converse fluently with Game Team Producers, Managers, and 
Executives
- Good or Excellent oral and written communications skill 
- Able to work effectively as a member of a team 
- Go to guy for all areas of Oracle technology
- Flexible enough to work with Open Source Database technology where needed. 

Bonus Points for:
- Previous experience with Online Game Development or support 
- Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) DBA certification 
- Experience with SAN/NAS technologies, OCFS and RMAN, RAID arrays 
- Experience as a System Administrator in a Unix environment

Senior Data Warehouse DBA

Description: 
SOE Database Services Group is looking for a highly energetic and multitalented 
Oracle professional to support its Data Warehouse 
solution in multiple Data Center(s). You will be a member of the DBA-Operations 
Team, responsible for a 24x7 Data Center schedule 
and will possess a combination of excellent database design and analytical 
skills, as well as familiarity with various Internet protocols 
and Java applications. Candidates for this position will also assume 
responsibility for new business requirements and implementing 
future Oracle enhancements to meet the business needs. Most of your time will 
be spent on maintaining and improving existing Data Warehouse 
, adding new reports, analyzing and archiving valuable data, monitoring and 
tuning performance, implementing system security.
You will be also involved in the customization Business Objects to support 
growing demands to data mining, designing and implementing 
variety of database monitoring tools to enhance existing processes to improve 
overall Operations effectiveness. 
You should be capable of teaching other team members in the use and best 
practices concerning these Oracle Technologies 


Responsibilities include: 
- Provide 'best practices' knowledge of business processes, requirements 
gathering and developing data warehouse systems. 
- Monitor and manage data warehouse requests through their lifecycle and 
validate the technical solution meets the business requirements. 
- Identify, define and document business requirements, including translating 
business requirements into conceptual technical requirements. 
- Schedule and facilitate workshops with the business for all project-related 
items, including tool evaluations, system recommendations and solution testing. 
- Use structured modeling and flow techniques to articulate business 
requirements. 
- Monitor, evaluate and advise on all issues that relate to any system 
projects. 
- Act as liason between business users and Database Services to guide the 
development and delivery of an enterprise data warehouse, as well as help solve 
business problems.  
- Develop documentation, training and other materials as needed by customers. 
Lead end-user training when necessary. 

Educational Requirements: 
BA/BS: IS, CIS, CS, related technical degree; or equivalent applicable industry 
experience 

Required Skills & Experience: 
- Delivered Data warehouse solution(s) to external and internal customers 
- +3 years hands-on experience as a Data warehouse Designer and Developer using 
Oracle and Unix or Linux 
- 3+ years hands-on experience as a Sr. Oracle DBA on Unix-based systems (incl. 
Design and implementation) 
- 5+ years experience with various Data Warehouse solutions, tools, and ETL 
(Oracle Discoverer or Cognos Experience a plus) 
- 2+ years of working experience in a mission critical environment (Data 
Center, 365x24x7) 
- Strong knowledge of SQL, PL/SQL and analytical SQL 
- Experience in data mining for Customer Billing 
- Experience with tuning and optimizing database performance (Oracle 9i and/or 
10G) 
- Extensive PERL and shell script programming skill 
- Experience as a lead dba for data warehouse projects  
- Practical knowledge of data backup and recovery (RMAN and/or OCFS and RAC) 
- Knowledge of online analytical processing (OLAP) tools and data-mining 
software 
- Ability to converse fluently with Finance dept., Game Team Producers, 
Platform Managers, and Executives and within the organization 
- Excellent oral and written communications skill 
Able to work effectively as a member of a team
