Which is where the defensive paper work comes in. If you have written
records that you've expressed your concerns and why you have them
then, even if you've been ignored, it might save your job long enough
for you to find another one before the company goes down the pan. I
read a report a couple of years ago (I think it was in a magazine like
"Business Age", although they might have been quoting another source)
that indicated that for many companies losing a customer facing core
business system for a day, or even jusr a few hours, could literally
kill the company. It might take months or even years for the company
to die but that's just the last gasps. The company might weather the
direct loss of business from the outage but the loss of customer
confidence resulting from an outage can kill it.

Obviously the amount of damage an outage can cause will depend on the
apps affected and the company but it does seem that a lot of the time
the management underestimate the damage an outage can cause.
