Rman cloning backups different devices

Rman gurus,

I would like to create a backup to tape and also to disk.  I understand
that RMAN can now "clone" the backup - not "clone" the database with the
duplicate command but actually the backup itself.  Has anyone done this?
Will it complicate the restore process?
