I must be missing something here since Oracle can create and run a service =
without a reboot, in fact lsnrctl can create a service for the listener fro=
m just the info in a freshly created listener.ora. Perhaps they know someth=
ing that the MS guys don't :) Like how to write software...=20

I suspect that the mandatory reboot has more to do
with changes to the environment than the registry.

A change to the registry should not require a reboot.

Adding a service however may require a reboot, as I
the believe that they run in the environment created
at boot time.

I could be wrong about this, but experience seems to
confirm it for me.
