A more global advice, when switching from disk to tape:
Since tape devices are slower, maybe you need
to slightly adapt your backup scripts and do less things
than you use to do.
For exemple, if you have frequent crosscheck operations, maybe you'll need
to do it less frequently with tapes.
Also, Rman's backup management & optimization is a little bit
different when going to tape directly.
I suggest you to read more about it in Oracle documentation
