Hey!  Don't you know you have to test your recovery?  ;)

Anyway, in 9i we'd sometimes use RMAN hot disk backups to clone
databases to locations across the WAN.  We compressed the backups to
save bandwidth.  The 300 gig database would end up compressed to
around 40 to 60 gigs using gzip.  Someone else mentioned that 10g is
using gzip, so your values don't seem out of line.
