You're correct of course...
My main points were that copying files to a "SAN" should not be regarded as
a "backup" and then secondly to disassociate backups of archivelogs from
backups of datafiles, where archived redo logfiles are far more important
than datafiles.
I just wanted to answer his immediate question before digressing onto other
matters...
