I have not observed this. When the session is "hanging", do you know on what
it is waiting? - You may want to query V$SESSION_WAIT to see this.
Has this query works on any of the other databases you may have?

testing it, once I waited 30 minutes after issuing the query. There was no
response, so I killed it.
