at the risk of starting yet more os specific ramblings somewhat tangentially to the point

my take is that moving from windows to linux is a higher risk strategy than
moving from a traditional unix platform to linux. This is almost entirely
due to the different mind and skillset required of sysadmins in the unix
world to that in the windows world.

RAC complicates everything, but then I guess you knew that.
