RE: Oracle8i to 10g upgrade using exp and imp

Yes, but when I read something like 'followed by a full or partial
import'...in oracle documentation, it leaves me ambiguous as to what
happens to the existing system schema in the destination database, and
the consequences thereof.

        Hi,

        the paragraph states:

        Export/Import

        Unlike the DBUA or a manual upgrade, the Export/Import utilities
physically copy data from your current database to a new database. You
can use either the Oracle Data Pump Export and Import utilities
(available as of Oracle Database 10g) or the original Export and Import
utilities to perform a full or partial export from your database,
followed by a full or partial import into a new Oracle Database 10g
database. Export/Import can copy a subset of the data in a database,
leaving the database unchanged.

        I think above paragraph states the use of full for both Export
as Import.

Hi

It doesnt seem to say anywhere that i can export the whole 8i database
with full=y (including sys and system users) and then import into 10g
using full=y(including sys and system)

        Hi,

        Oracle has the Oracle Database Upgrade Guide. In this the method
is mentioned.
        See
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14238/preup.htm
#i694345. Start reading from the paragraph Export/Import

        Hi

        I would like to know any metalink note or Oracle documentation
link which spells out that i can do exp full=y on 8i database and imp
full=y into 10g database.

        I searched this but unable to locate that this is a a supported
method for upgrading from 8i to 10g

        regards
