RE: Oracle on VMS?

Paul,

Unfortunately (for your argument), you probably will not get any firestorm
stories about running Oracle on VMS. It is, by far, the most stable
platform anywhere today.

But for your argument, you can simply argue market share and software
availability. VMS is probably one of the last ports that Oracle releases to
- but (according to them) only by at most a month.

How about arguing that supporting another operating system is not cost
effective. If all of your sys admins are linux-based, then the cost to
train everyone in VMS would mean it's a bad idea. Probably too late for
this discussion.

Not much help - sorry.

Tom

Subject: Oracle on VMS?

I'm soliciting backup for a recommendation NOT to migrate our
Oracle10g databases to a VMS cluster that our parent company is
installing in a new data center. I'm thoroughly convinced that it's
not the way to go (I'm planning to use RAC on Linux), but the more
ammunition I have, the better. Do we have any VMS users who can
relate their experiences regarding release availability, technical
resources at Oracle, etc.? On the flip side, do we have anyone on the
list who has chosen VMS for a new Oracle deployment?

Thanks,
