They have not retired Materialized Views yet. :-)
I do recall seeing a somewhat vague statement (just following the GoldenGate
acquisition) that Oracle was planning to make GoldenGate "the future of
streams". Does that mean Streams will go away? I'd be surprised. But
maybe not shocked.
Oracle 11gR2 still supports Steams, so if you deploy streams now, you know
it will still be supported *at least* 5 years from now. In IT that's about
as good a guarantee as you get.
If you have serious doubts, take them to Oracle. Perhaps your sales rep can
put you in touch with the Streams product manager. (Motivation always
helps; you could maybe hint that you are considering migrating to DB2
because Oracle's product line is too unpredictable.) :-)
