On my first (and only, so far) 10g implementation (10.2 on AIX) 7 months
ago - I convinced my client to purchase the diagnostics pack, but also
convinced them that we did *not* need the Tuning pack, even though
Oracle sales folks of course insisted it should really go hand-in-hand
with the diag pack and acted like I was crazy for wanting diag w/o
tuning. So far, I'm happy with my decision after supporting the
database in production for several months. The AWR stuff is really nice
and has come in quite handy on several occasions. Of course we all
survived w/o it before so I know it's not exactly essential, but we
could all survive without electricity too, right? If the $$ was coming
directly out of my pocket, I'd probably live w/o the diag pack, but
relative to the server licensing and overall scheme of things for a
mid-large size company I don't think it's unreasonable.

Regards,
Brandon
