Oracle 9i File Mapping

Is anybody out there using this feature of 9i? I'm wondering
how well it works, if it's useful, etc.
We're running EMC Symmterix, Clariion, and NetApp, and the sysadmins
tell us there's no visibility into the internals of these arrays.
If this tool works as described, it might be very useful.
Yes? No? Great? Sucks?
