That applies only to versions that are still supported in some fashion. ML Note 207303.1 has some details. While 7.x client to 11g RDBMS has never been supported, it does work. You just have to test in your environment if the combination is unsupported. In general, older clients have no trouble connecting to newer databases. There may be issues due to bugs (Oracle names 9i on the client anyone?) or mis-configuration, but it should work. Sometimes you have no choice (we don't) YMMV Jared
