I don't quite understand the fascination with trying to make Firewire drives work with RAC, even as a test. Will your production be using Firewire drives? I suppose if this were a home/hobby setup... A brief look on cdw.com shows a RAC Firewire setup with 2 controllers, cables, and a LaCie 40GB drive for about $175. A similar SCSI setup is $410 (or $350, if you want to save the cost of the external inclosure by powering the drive with an extension from one of the RAC server's PSs.) Or boost the price by $250 if you want the guaranteed trouble-free Adaptec 29160LP SCSI cards. The SCSI variant will cost you (your company) as little as $175 more, will be much closer to a production setup, and will be much more trouble-free.
