Re: $ORACLE_HOME without subdirs/version number and what does root.sh exactly

it looks to me like your $ORACLE_HOME = $ORACLE_BASE. Not sure how that
happened.

root.sh changes file permissions and will set up the oraenv script. I don't
believe it ever changed the ORACLE_HOME env var.

I don't know if anyone else can help you, but i'd need more info, if i was
going to be more useful. Version of Oracle and O/S would be a start.

Subject: $ORACLE_HOME without subdirs/version number and what does root.sh
exactly

Hi folks
I installed my first oracle client. Why my oracle home is something like
$ echo $ORACLE_HOME
opt/app/oracle
and not for example /opt/app/oracle/product/10.2.1 (with subdirs and
ersion number). Did I do something wrong during installation?
I didn't run the script /opt/app/oracle/root.sh, but sqlplus
onnection is working fine. What does the root.sh do exactly? What are
onsequences if not run?
cheers
