Which wait events showed up in ASH during the 5-10 minutes leading up to the ORA-03136 errors found in your alert.log file?

Thanks Tim for all your responses. In ASH report we could not find anything sequence related.

We do see some wait on CPU in AWR/ASH report  although there is not that much load during hanging time.

This issue started around 5-6 weeks back otherwise the system was fine for last 2 years.

Don't discount sequences (or any other possible cause) so quickly until you review the ASH information during the 5-10 minutes leading up to the appearance of the error messages, and just follow the information you find.  It will likely lead you directly to the cause.

The case study in the presentation was somewhat convoluted -- I could never have diagnosed it with session-level information and the information in ASH, although far from perfect, is very useful.

Tim,

Quite good presentation and problem analysis.

We are going through similar issue on node2 but it is not sequence related. Database version 10.2.0.4 on Suse10.

sqlplus / as sysdba session also hangs during that duration between 5-15 minutes.  It normally happens during nightly data load when node1 is quite busy. We don't see that much load on node2. We were suspecting auto stats job which we disabled but no success. It happens some nights with different timing in the night.

We have opened an SR and provided system dump (using sqlplus -prelim)  and strace files generated during hanging time. Now waiting for their analysis.

I just did a presentation at RMOUG on the topic of ORA-3135/3136.  Please let me know if it helps...
