Hi Brian I will hazard to guess your backup is trying to backup open database files with a file copy backup. If so, its a mostly a waste of time. Whilst in a desperate situation you can recover data from the database that you can reconstruct you would need to extract that data from the old database and reload it to a new database to remain supported. Oracle wont support a database running after such a recovery, only assist you through the recovery. Make sure the oracle datafiles, controlfiles, and redo logs are excluded from virus scanning and file copy type backups unless you are doing a file copy of a shutdown database. In this case you were not.
