And to answer Paul's question the platform is?
Is it possible someone altered your udump destination?
Can you run either the 10053 or 10046 trace on another statement
using an ALTER SESSION command?
Like "select count(*) from (the smallest table)".

Larry,
No trace with 10053 CBO also and no change with init.ora (their DBA told he
has not changed any parameter in the init.ora) It appears to be platform
specific bug. Have asked tha client to provide the value for cursor_sharing
and compatible parameter from init.ora.
