Interesting article. What is very frustrating is that Oracle has been toying around with it's savior on this subject, but refuses to "bite the bullet" and do it. I'm talking about site licensing. The author is quite right, Oracle and Microsoft to boot, are still stuck in that idea that a server is a physical piece of hardware that you can reach out and physically touch. When with the current virtualization technologies & blades that concept is no longer true. A server is what it's defined as right now. And that could change in the next second. ........................................................................ ............................................................. I thought this one was kind of interesting also: http://news.com.com/VMware+fires+broadside+at+Microsoft/2100-1016_3-6162 690.html?tag=st.rn Though frankly, I am not convinced that the 'coming age of virtualization' the article mentions is coming. -----Original Message----- From: oracle-l-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:oracle-l-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Paul Drake Sent: Friday, March 02, 2007 2:50 PM To: oracle-l Subject: Multi-core FAQ (new) (wrt Oracle database server software licensing) http://news.com.com/Multicore+move+cuts+Oracle+database+cost+-+page+2/21 00-1006_3-6163674-2.html?tag=st.num http://www.oracle.com/corporate/pricing/multicore_faq.pdf Interesting. I'm surprised that this wasn't linked to sooner. Must be all that DST material flying around ...
