I recently did an 8i to 11g migration (8.1.7.4 -> 11.2.0.2). I opted to skip going through 10g as it was just too much extra work. Also, I opted to do export/import (yes, imp is still there in 11g) because I wanted to use new 11g features (we had the benefit of doing this in dev, test, and then prod - not sure if you have that luxury). I also used SQL Plan Management and migrated my profiles over from the Test system to production as part of the upgrade to help ensure good performance immediately after the upgrade. I would definitely not just go to 10g because support won't be as good and won't last as long. -----Original Message----- From: oracle-l-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:oracle-l-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of kathryn axelrod Sent: Monday, March 05, 2012 11:17 AM To: dramirezr@xxxxxxxxx Cc: 'oracle-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' (oracle-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx) Subject: Re: Migration from 8i to 11g Someone pointed out that you might be referring to doing an import/export - in which case, I retract my question. (And you're on 8i anyway, so it's not like you're getting loads of support to begin with!) One other suggestion: It is somewhat tedious, and I don't know if you've looked at them yet, but if you read through all of the 'What's New' documents from 9i on (e.g. http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e16763/whatsnew.htm) that could help reduce the surprise changes.
