Yes, you do.

Another way to do that (if you have the space) is to create a MV with the
data
you need, and then create another one, based on the initial MV.

Populating the 2nd MV from the 1st can be very fast. It is dependent on the
data and the query in question.  I use this method to create a small table
from Oracle Apps data.  The query to pull the data from apps is quite slow,
hence the second MV for external app use.
