Hugepages are a good thing. They prevent swapping, and less CPU overhead due
to no page table lookups, and since they don't swap, kswapd won't attempt to
manage them.

I'm not aware of any drawbacks to configuring hugepages.

You mention you're running 64 bits. It seemsthat document is 32-bit specific?
You might want to check out Doc ID 361468.1.

Bottom line, hugepages are good. You should be using them.

Subject: Hugepages - benefits / drawbacks

Hello to everyone

SuSE SLES 10 64bit, Oracle 10.2.0.4 standalone (no RAC)

We are planning to utilize hugepages on systems that come with 32GB to 64GB of
memory. We are following steps from Metalink note 560501.1.

Are there some real performance gains when using hugepages? Are there some new
problems introduced with this option?

Looking forward for answers,
Vladimir Barac
