How to setup LDAP

Hello Everyone,
I have :
DB version 9.2.0.7 and 10.2.0.3
DB Platform Solaris 8, 9 & 10
We have database username/password authentication with some security via
profile.
Our management has decided to have all authentication done through
(existing) LDAP. Please forgive my ignorance, but I do not have any idea
how to set/test in test environment.
Most of search directs me to OID. I am not sure I need to use OID. Do we
need license to use LDAP?
Any documents/pointers are greatly appreciated.
