Hello Dba, If you (or for that matter any group/organization(s) wants individuals to have cross domain problem solving mindset, ask him/her/them up front during the interview process about it OR If that's too late in the game, actively encourage/highlight/communicate that approach within the team and go from there. I believe, in lots of big organizations, knowledge silos get formed and lots of techies tend to follow the "let the subject matter expert look at it" thought (whether or not they are capable of troubleshooting/resolving it). If reason is pure "lack of technical abilities", the uninterested individuals could be encouraged/ gradually educated. However, if the core issue is non-technical - e.g. - group culture where only leads/highly experienced/subject matter experts are expected to own the resolution of the problem in practical sense, that is more of an overall environment/management issue in my view. -Rajeev -- //www.freelists.org/webpage/oracle-l
