I misunderstood Nuno's post. Yes, you are right, MySQL has nothing like 
clustering.
As for competing with oracle, it doesn't necessarily have to be on technical
merits, it can compete on the price. If you don't need RAC (I believe it was 
Cary
who wrote an article with the title like "What is RAC and why you probably 
don't need it", but I haven't finished my 2nd cup of coffee yet), then MySQL is
a formidable competitor.
