Dennis,
this is ANSI/ISO standard syntax -- *including* the ability to grant the
SELECT privilege on a column list.
So Oracle only *partly* implements the SQL standard here...

Any speculation why Oracle got stingy on the SELECT? I guess I can see maybe
there are times where creating a view might interfere with update or insert.
Just seems like SELECT would have been easy to include while they were
coding this change. Does anyone know if this feature was added for ANSI
compatibility?
