I doubt we could all agree on anyone to keep this data confidentially. We
might ask Cary or someone else equally trustworthy that has a website to
post a collector page that we could get a generic ID/PW to and go in and
fill out such data, leaving out personal names, company names and such.

Just a thought.

Why don't we take our own survey? Pick one willing person to collect the
stats and make some sense of them. I think a lot of us are closer to each
other than we think, as the big companies check the going median salaries
constantly. I don't believe Robert Half - they have Salt Lake City median
as
$122K! NOT!

We could send our info to one person everyone is comfortable with, who
would
be willing to keep it confidential, and figure out medians for areas and
company sizes, etc., for us. If you think that is too personal, let me
know.
It would only be to help us. I don't even know what the guys I work with
make. It would be nice to know the going typical salaries/rates.

Here are the things I'd suggest answering:

1. Permanent employment or contract?
2. Geographic region
3. Years IT
4. Years total Oracle DBA experience
5. OCP?
6. Company size
7. Yearly salary/hourly rate (depending on #1 above)

I would put the salary range for Dallas right now between 65 and 80.
Consulting rates are where the real mess there exists as the placements
pimps and firms have picked the market dry such that rates are being
offered as low as $30-35 an hour. I had to laugh at the sitation, but it
is'nt funny. I attribute that to the number of IT folks that are out of
work there and when that many are desperate, it is easy to take advantage.
Placement firms and the pimps are still billing out at around $75-100 an
hour and pocketing all they can. Based on your networking and abilities
and level of desperation, the range is between 30 and 60, with 45-55 being
the average.

Keep in mind Dallas used to be very strong in terms of openings and
compensations, with salaries between 75-110 being the norm and rates
slightly below 100 an hour.

This is in terms of a 5-8 year general DBA type...
ymmv, but this is what I saw...
