I beg to differ.
With stand by server we are usually talking about short periods that the
server needs to be able to serve the company.
Those periods will be far apart.
The ROI usually will not justify going with RAC for this kind of activity.
Of course, if business requirements demand otherwise then the ROI does
not count.
For example:
Both RAC servers are now at 75% capacity.
Single, same configuration, server will not be able to meet the load and
will cause a slow down.
If this slow down is not acceptable for short period of time you need
also RAC for the stand by.
