Sean,
This is slightly off-topic but an alternative to DVB is to let the
operating system handle data integrity/verification. Sun is about to
release a new file system called ZFS. I have a short blog here:

I know that you are using Windows 2000 so this does not apply to your
specific situation now but I just thought I should let you know about
alternatives that are out there.

The Oracle manuals have not been much help either. I've looked at the server and it does not appear to be maxed out by anything that would cripple the dbv executing.
