DBMS_SYSTEM.SET_EV parameter nm

Does anyone know what the "NM" parameter of DBMS_SYSTEM.SET_EV actually gets used for?
Typically it gets set to null when the procedure is called, but I'd like to know if it has some usefulness that can be harnessed.
