Yup, I'm already seeing this a lot. It's the first thing I ask a user to check 
when they have a login issue with 12c.
Something to highlight back to Java developers, especially 3-tier guys using the Oracle JDBC drivers or JDBC/JDNI Connection Pools.

For years (and years and years) all the demos showed "jdbc:oracle:thin:@host:port:sid" and that "black magic" has been propagated throughout our industry.
