Subject: Business Objects Vs Oracle Reports for batch reports

We are embarking on a big project which has a quite few number of
mandated reports to be produced in batch. We are using Business Objects
( crystal enterprise ) for all our online/adhoc reporting needs. It is a
J2EE application.

We are in the process of deciding which reporting tool we should use for
Batch. I tried to look it up on the web; all the posts regarding
comparisons are really old and I do not whether it is relevant any more
or not.

My main issue is performance; how BO fares with Oracle Reports. I heard
BO does the joins on the client side; my knowledge in BO is very
limited. On the other there is a pressure to keep the whole reporting
environment uniform ( BO every where ). My main concern as a DBA is
performance; I do not want to end up with a product which inherently has
performance limitations.

Any comments, pointers or white papers are of great help.

Thanks in advance

We use BO for our datawarehouse and have good performance. In our
implimentation we don't see client side joins. Sure sometimes I need to
get involved to tweek the SQL, but nothing unusual. You might look at
infoburst (www.infosol.com) for report distribution. Is it better or
worse than Oracle Reports? I don't know.
