RE: Backing up RMAN catalog database

I think it is telling you to use rman without a recovery catalog
database to backup the recovery catalog database. The control file for
the recovery catalog database will contain the recovery information.
Just make sure you backup the control file as part of the backup process
(,which is something you should be doing anyway).
Unless you are making use of the recovery catalog database to store
scripts then in my opinion there is very little reason to use a recovery
catalog with rman. Rman is capable of recovering the database using
just the control file and if you lose the control file rman is capable
or recovering it first and then recovering the database using a backup
control file.

Thank you for the link. In it is says "When backing up the recovery
catalog database, you can use RMAN to make the backups", does that mean
to use the rman executable on the catalog database server and write to a
tape on the master mml server? (I guess preferrably to a separate tape
pool than the other backups).
