Hi Abdul,

the node not necessarily has to be up to be removed from the cluster.
The cluster resources for the node that disappeared have to be removed on
one of the remaining nodes.
One thing to be done is to tell the global inventories of the nodes that
remain in the cluster which nodes still do form the cluster.
This can be achieved by an runInstaller call (therefore, please, look into
the universal installer guide).

Never (I mean it!) take one of those offline(d) nodes online when they still
think they are cluster members.
If you shut them down, keep them down...;-)

hth,
Torsten.

Betreff: RAC - remove node

Hi,

Has anyone on this list had experience removing a node from an Oracle RAC
cluster when that node is down/gone? In other words, does the node you are
trying to remove have to be up for you to remove it?

Background:
We have a 6 node RAC cluster that we're having trouble removing nodes from
and need some help. Nodes 1,2,5,6 are all still in the cluster and nodes
3,4 are partially in. We tried removing nodes 3,4 and were not able to due
to issues with dbca hanging and other issues that followed. Any suggestions
would be appreciated.

We are on Oracle 10.2.3.0 w/ ASM on Solaris 10.

Thanks,
Abdul
