This bit is a bit vague – it does not clearly state if ACFS is covered in the
local/networked file system.

I would say that the other two links clearly clarify where the backupsets are
covered and what ACFS allows.

What may be in doubt is what if the ORACLE license is standard and not EE.

I would still say based on my reading the ACFS details are clear

If you are still doubtful I suggest open a SR

What I mentioned is also covered for 12c -

did y see this?

http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/license.112/e47877/editions.htm#DBLIC121

It states this:

ASM Cluster File System (ACFS) or a local OS file system must be used to store
all non-database files. No Oracle-maintained copies of any non-database files
can exist in any other locations, with the following exceptions:

1. Customers who want to manually script maintenance of a standby database
can create a second copy of their archive logs outside of Oracle ASM on a local
file system only, designated by the LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_n parameter.

2. RMAN backups of files can reside on either a local or network mounted
file system.

Use of Oracle ADVM and Oracle ACFS's base functionality (i.e., excluding the

below-listed advanced functionality) is free for all data types, including

non-Oracle files. (below is advanced functionality)

Use of Oracle ACFS's advanced functionality requires the Cloud File System

license. The advanced functionality consists of snapshots, replication,
tagging,

realm-based security, encryption, and auditing

So I would say that RMAN should be covered

Hi Rajendra

It seems to me that when standard edition is used ACFS cannot store RMAN
backups, what do yu think?

Thanks

This may also be helpful… Confirms what was said earlier

http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e18951/asmfilesystem.htm#OSTMG31000

Starting with Oracle Automatic Storage Management 11g Release 2 (11.2.0.3),
Oracle ACFS supports RMAN backups (BACKUPSET file type), archive logs
(ARCHIVELOG file type), and Data Pump dumpsets (DUMPSET file type). Note that
Oracle ACFS snapshots are not supported with these files.

The following is stated in the licensing guide:
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/license.112/e47877/options.htm#DBLIC2157

Oracle Cloud File System
Oracle Cloud File System includes Oracle ASM Cluster File System (Oracle ACFS)
and Oracle ASM Dynamic Volume Manager (Oracle ADVM).

* Use of Oracle ADVM and Oracle ACFS's base functionality (i.e.,
excluding the below-listed advanced functionality) is free for all data types,
including non-Oracle files.
* Use of Oracle ACFS's advanced functionality requires the Cloud File
System license. The advanced functionality consists of snapshots, replication,
tagging, realm-based security, encryption, and auditing.

Oracle will provide support for ACFS/ADVM only if the server is running an
Oracle product, which may include Oracle Linux or Oracle Solaris, that is also
under Oracle support.

and the following is also stated in the RAC on standard edition section
(http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/license.112/e47877/editions.htm#DBLIC121)

"ASM Cluster File System (ACFS) or a local OS file system must be used to store
all non-database files"
.

so, I would say no
