Replay is quite a bit more sophisticated than just mining the transactions
and replaying them. It considers concurrency, offers flexibility with things
like "think time" and provides comparative reporting.

Um, its not real hard to catch the sql and replay it in Oracle. You can
do it using logminer or the auditing tables, if that's all you want to do.
What does real application testing do in addition to that, and how does it
compare to the 'SQL trace replay' that is spoken of here?

Yes, especially considering that SQL Server has had real application
testing (by the name of "SQL trace replay" from the Profiler) included in
the base product since SQL 7.0 was released almosts 10 years ago! And
Oracle is acting like it's some revolutionary new idea that you should pay
extra for.

That is a shame, isn't it....

One initial area of disappointment in 11g is that pretty much every
"significant" new feature is now an extra cost option....
