Hi Ron,=20

Yes, there is a tnsnames.ora. The fully qualified ADDRESS string you
show below fails with errors.=20

Thanks for your response

Lisa,
 From the 9.2 Database Reference guide about the LOCAL_LISTENER...
LOCAL_LISTENER
       Parameter type     string
       Syntax                   LOCAL_LISTENER =3D network_name
       Default value         (ADDRESS =3D (PROTOCOL=3DTCP) (HOST=3D)
(PORT=3D1521))
       Parameter class      Dynamic:ALTER SYSTEM

       LOCAL_LISTENER specifies a network name that resolves to an
address or address list of Oracle Net local listeners (that is,
listeners that are running on the same machine as this instance). The
address or address list is specified in the TNSNAMES.ORA file or other
address respository as configured for your system.

Is there a local TNSNAMES.ORA on the server?
Just a thought.
Ron

Hi KG, here is what I get when I try to start the instance:

SQL> startup
ORA-00119: invalid specification for system parameter LOCAL_LISTENER
ORA-00132: syntax error or unresolved network name 'LISTENER'
SQL>

Also doesn't work with the fully qualified name from tnsnames, like
Mladen suggested.=3D20

SQL> startup
ORA-00119: invalid specification for system parameter LOCAL_LISTENER
ORA-00132: syntax error or unresolved network name '+ASM.FFCI.COM'
SQL>

I added the following to sqlnet.ora

SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES=3D3D (NTS)
NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH=3D3D (TNSNAMES, ONAMES, HOSTNAME)
NAMES.DEFAULT_DOMAIN =3D3D ffci.com

Tnsnames reflects the ffci.com. I'd appreciate000 any suggestions you
have. =3D20

Every time I see KG I think of Kevin Garnett... =3D20

Lisa:

I think I can help you if you post the complete error stack.
If you are getting ORA-119/132, you can just add a TNS
entry for that crippling network name and start the ASM instance.
