Performace issue - 11.5.9 HP-UX 32 bit

Hi DBAs,
Greetings!!!

We are facing performance issue in our oracle system. We are on 11.5.9 on
HP-UX 32-bit
A group of users are running  'Invoice Validation' program during
month-end . This has not been smooth till now. Whenever the Users tries to
run the program, the Screen Freezes and they have to close the application.

This takes up the entire day with the program sometimes having a successful
run.
The user once tried the entire day to run the program but each time the
screen froze and then she had to try late night at 1:30, the program then
completed in an hour.

I could infer that this is due to resource crunch. Please let me know the
ways to capture the culprit eating up system's resource.
