Kalyan,

Are you trying to start the standby for normal use?

If not, then you have to start the standby thus:-

SQL> startup nomount pfile=init_standby.ora
SQL> alter database mount standy database;


& to start managed recovery

SQL> alter database recover managed standby database disconnect from
session;
