[optimal] Printing scanned slides

Hi fellow Optimal members.

I resurrected an old Microtek scanner (ScanMaker 8700) with the SnapTrans
adapter that allows me to scan 12 slides at once. I downloaded the VueScan
software to run this scanner as the Microtek software is not very user
friendly. It did a very good job scanning the slides but I have some issues
with the current settings as I can not make VueScan just scan 4 slides out of
the 12 slots available; it scans them all every time.
I opened 4 scanned images with Photoshop Elements (v 6.0) and did some
contrast/curves/crop adjustmenrts with the idea of producing a four-up in
portrait mode on an 8.5 x 11 photo paper sheet.
I tried Elements "Photo Package" and printed four 3.5 X 5 images. The two
stereo pairs look great but the demographics and photo data are missing. How do
I add the pt name, DOB, DOS and laterality to this sheet? Is it possible?
I also tried Elements Photo Collage in the "Create " mode but that was too
messy and time consuming.
I am sure there is an easier way to put 2 stereo pairs horiz in portrait mode
with the pt data up or below the images.
I suspect that using layers might be the solution but I am not experienced with
their use. Please let me know how I can get this procees done in an easy and
efficient way. Detailed steps much appreciated!

My next stage would be to automate the scanned images enhancements (crop,
contrast, sharpening, exposure) in Elements. How can I do this? Actions??

Later on I will resurrect our Nikon Super CoolScan 4000ED. The problem I have
with the CoolScan is that it uses a Firewire connection and all of the PC's I
have are USB only. Arrrggghh! Is there a Firewire to USB converter? We have
ThinkCentre mini towers that have very limited space so adding a Firewire board
might not be possible. Our IT dept is not fond of customization !#$!%^!

Thank you in advance.
