* Our center has checked this out extensively

* There are no contraindications to sodium fluorescein for
kidney dialysis or transplant patients.

* Codicil of NOT using their dialysis shunt for injection

* Time the FA on the upswing of their dialysis appointments-
they retain fluid. Do on the morning of their dialysis appointment.

Visa vi our Nephrology department clearance. Have not bothered to do a
lit search.

Subject: Fluorescein angiography contraindication

Dear Barbara,

Can anyone provide me with an article that discusses the safety of
fluorescein angiography in patients with advanced kidney failure, or
chronic kidney disease (CKD)?

We always ask the retinal specialist to make the decision regarding such
patients, but I would like to read some articles on the subject.

I did find the following article
http://care.diabetesjournals.org/content/32/3/e31.full on the internet
(Yusuke Kameda et al. March 2009 is when the article appeared on the
American Diabetes Association website)

They measur3ed the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) in
diabetic patients who underwent IVFA and found no significant risk of
loss in kidney function but suggest further studies.

What is the general consensus in regard to a patient with severe kidney
failure or someone on dialysis?

Thank you kindly.
