I had to fill out a recommendation form for a friend and read it with the
optacon. I could read the questions, and see boxes where things had to be
checked. I could follow lines across the page, and get the general layout
of the page.

What interested me is that on the envelope, I could feel the bar code, and
where the stamp was to go, I could actually feel a rectangle made of
dashes. Incredible machine! Just incredible. I usually just read
letters and never actually noticed that you could tell a very simple
drawing like where to place a stamp. On the place where the return
address goes, I could feel individual lines to write the address. Of
course, I just put an address label. With the optacon, the index finger
is transformed into an eye.

Kind regards,
Bob
PS: Still can't read italics well at all. The letters seems spread apart,
and the letter n or m look like lines that are not connected. But, if
someone prints very very carefully, I can make it out, but it is slow.
Regular printing I do much, much better, especially if it is a simpler
font. Bold letters where many pins vibrate and the letters are thick are
also difficult for me, and if the print is too big, I can't read it.

Not complaining: it's a remarkable machine.
