Businesses evolve at the rate that they can given marketplace
realities. Apparently Philip and many on this list think that Tivo's
competency is the EPG. Nothing could be further from the truth. We
are simply moving through the first phase of the shift from browsing
the controlled universe of multi-channel broadcasting to searching
the virtually unlimited universe of programming. Tivo's competency
lies in the latter, along with the competency to assemble REAL
program ratings based on actual usage patterns, and the ability to
localize and customize the viewing experience based upon the metadata
that they gather about viewer preferences. Cable and DBS EPGs are
nothing more than a TV guide. necessary, but not complete.

IF Apple were to buy Tivo - and I doubt that they will - they would
use it to bypass the traditional multi-channel service, not to
enhance them. But this requires bandwidth...

All things in good time.

Craig
