On this specific point, which I didn't address, I think the big difference is in the echo power you're able to tolerate. The first through third gen receivers could only stand a -3 to -5 usec echo (depending on brand) if it was at least 15 dB below the main signal. Compare this with the Linx -17 usec at 0 dB, and that's a huge difference. And A/74 says that -5 usec echoes should be okay even at 2 dB below the main signal, so again, much better than any 1st through 3rd gen receiver could cope with. Basically, A/74 says that receivers should handle -20 usec echoes better than those 1st through 3rd gen could manage even a -3 to -5 usec echo. That's why these newer designs work much better with gap fillers than the early receivers did.
