On this specific point, which I didn't address, I think
the big difference is in the echo power you're able to
tolerate.

The first through third gen receivers could only stand a
-3 to -5 usec echo (depending on brand) if it was at
least 15 dB below the main signal. Compare this with the
Linx -17 usec at 0 dB, and that's a huge difference.

And A/74 says that -5 usec echoes should be okay even at
2 dB below the main signal, so again, much better than any
1st through 3rd gen receiver could cope with.

Basically, A/74 says that receivers should handle -20 usec
echoes better than those 1st through 3rd gen could manage
even a -3 to -5 usec echo. That's why these newer designs
work much better with gap fillers than the early receivers
did.
