Craig opines that Radio is the best media for emergency information. This info is but a small though very critical part of what local TV provides. My experience over many years in local broadcasting, is that viewers go directly to TV for emergency info and reporting and the use radio as a very reliable and important back up source.

The issue was about the use of the OTA spectrum, not whether network
content is carried on cable.

I don't believe John's point was about Network program carriage, it was focused on the 99% local station coverage. Networks can indeed be distributed without broadcasting but local affiliates and independent stations are the only significant sources for comprehensive video based local news, programming and critical emergency information. The issue is about reaching the local audiences with this unique and highly desired programming and the local broadcaster is it's source for that 99%, regardless of how it is delivered to the viewer.

Never y'all mind that broadcast television is still the only way to
reach practically every household in the United States.

That is a very strange statement.

Not strange at all. Broadcast Television reaches 99% of all US homes
when you add together cable, DBS, and OTA.

John

If I yell real loud I can reach 99% of all US homes if I add in cable,
DBS, and, OTA. But that doesn't make a good case for anything.

The issue was about the use of the OTA spectrum, not whether network
content is carried on cable.
