Hmm. Nevermind that with TV you can see where the eye of the storm is and note its progress.

Clearly when one of these storms is on the prowl, more people that could be affected tend to watch various sources of news/weather to track the storms progress.

But this is not the exclusive domain of local TV stations, just something they do because it affects their viewers. The Weather Channel gets a much bigger bump (and higher ad rates) when they go into "Hurricane Mode."

I use web based weather services rather than TV because the latest information is always available on demand and I can analyze more data - there are typically 6 or more computer models with wildly varying projections.

Not much difference between watching a TV weather report or hearing the latest coordinates on the radio. But TV does have a huge advantage showing the destruction after the storm!

And that is mostly voyeurism unless it's your house that the tree fell on.
