So I am back to brewing on a daily basis at one of my other jobs - Swamp Head. A year or two ago we played music in the brewery using my old iPhone 2G. That was replaced with a PC, which now typically plays music from a streaming service like Spotify. I was told I could connect my iPhone again, but it is unnecessary… Last night I downloaded the iTune Application for the PC. iTunes is now supported via Apple’s iCloud, so my music library is mirrored on their servers - actually mostly just my metadata. Apple mirrors any music you have purchased from iTunes in the cloud for free. But they also offer a service called iTunes Match, which costs $24.99/yr. Here is how Apple describes how Match works: > iTunes determines which songs in your collection are available in the iTunes > Store. Any music with a match is automatically added to iCloud for you to > listen to anytime, on any device. Since there are more than 37 million songs > in the iTunes Store, chances are your music is already in iCloud. And for the > few songs that aren’t, iTunes uploads what it can’t match (which is much > faster than uploading your entire music library). Even better, all the music > iTunes matches plays back from iCloud at 256-Kbps AAC DRM-free quality — even > if your original copy was of lower quality. iTunes Match subscribers also get the iRadio service without the ads - it costs $3.99/mo to block the ads (legally) on Pandora. So I opened iTunes on the PC, entered my username and password, and boom. Everything on my old iPhone is there, accessible on demand. Some walled gardens are less walled than others… Regards Craig ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can UNSUBSCRIBE from the OpenDTV list in two ways: - Using the UNSUBSCRIBE command in your user configuration settings at FreeLists.org - By sending a message to: opendtv-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word unsubscribe in the subject line.
