Page 18 of the manual:

"Digital signals from any compressed source have intrinsic compression
artifacts such as mosquito noise. Whenever the image source is digital
and compressed, the VNR-1000 card should be set to the MNR mode."

"When the image source is not compressed, DNR mode should be selected."
